Watermead
Client: Leicestershire County Council
Location: Watermead Country Park
Value: £750,000
Contract: Traditional
This was the winning scheme for a competition bid to provide Watermead Country Park with new facilities for visitors as the existing facilities were repeatedly vandalised.
Watermead Country Park is a network of lakes, woodlands and nature reserves created from 340 acres of gravel workings along the River Soar to the north of the city. Watermead Country Park is now a haven for wetland wildlife enjoyed by nature lovers, walkers and families. The park has fine lake views and woodland walks with good paths, picnic and barbeque areas.
By designing a scheme that sat within the lake, with access that could be retracted out of hours, this would provide protection from vandals without the need for fences, gates or guards.
